Flavanoids…

  • “Flavanoids improve memory and concentration…(Flavaniods) treat attention deficit disorder.”

  • “(Flavanoids are) found in abundance in plants , fruits and vegetables, and plant-based beverages . Best sources include tea leaves, oranges, citrus fruit , apples, onions, red grapes, berries, and pine bark.”

  • “(Flavanoids are) found in plants, notably in the pigments of leaves, barks, rinds, seeds, and flowers. They are part of a larger group of molecules called polypehnol compounds.”

  • “(Flavanoids) interact with the network by regenerating vitamin C back to it’s active antioxidant form… (Combinations) of antioxidants have been proven to be more effective than single antioxidants.”

  • “(In a) 1996 Dutch study of 552 men found that those who drank the most tea, a rich source of flavanoids, had a significantly lower risk of developing stroke than those who did not…(People) who drink red wine which is particularly high in flavanoids, have much lower rates of heart disease than teetotalers.”

  • “(Nitric oxide is) the Jekyll and Hyde of molecules…(Depending) on the situation, it can be very good or very bad…When nitric oxide encounters the superoxide free radical,…(it) becomes a peroxynitrite, which destroys antioxidants like glutathione, flavanoids, and vitamin E and damages proteins.”

  • “(Flavanoid) antioxidants like ginkgo and Pycnogenol can regulate nitric oxide…”

  • “Ginkgo is primarily being touted as memory-enhancing herb…In Germany and France ginkgo is sold as a prescription drug…”

  • “Not only did it (ginkgo) inhibit the action of nitric oxide , but it also quenched superoxide and the hydroxyl radical…”

  • “(Ginkgo) extract can prevent the oxidation of low-density lipoproteins…”

  • “Under these circumstances, only 20-25 percent of the hearts will recover…The rest will suffer serious damage, including irreparable destruction of heart muscle.”

  • “When we added ginkgo to the reperfusion solution, however, the rate of recovery soared to 65 percent…(A) signifcant reduction in tissue damage… (The experiment) showed that ginkgo extract can rescue a dying heart, enabling it to survive an otherwise lethal heart attack.”
