The reason I’m saying that is because when we think of food, we actually picture dishes… and dishes are sometimes hardly nourishing. To readjust our mindset, we need nourishment to live. When we think of nourishment, we think of nutrients.
Technology might have advanced in the last few decades. The cell phones of yester-years are not the same as, say, the iPhone now. But our biology are essentially the same as those of our great great grandparents. If the iPhone can be used for longer hours with the same time it takes to battery-charge its predecessors, for example, the same cannot be said of our bodies. We still need nearly the same amount of nutrients as our forefathers. Yet, the kinds of dishes we eat contain less and less nutrients than what our forefathers used to consume. What’s worse, it has even more damaging ingredients (partially hydrogenated what nots, mercury and all) than before.
Before, our forefathers eat to feel full when they are hungry. Understandably, we are trained to do the same. But it works for them because the food that makes them full also provides sufficient nutrients for them. Not the case for us. We cannot eat to feel full anymore. When we are hungry, we need to find nourishment. When we are thirsty, we cannot just drink… we need to hydrate. Perhaps with this little adjustment of the word we use to replace food and drink, we can begin to choose our food and prepare it with greater care.
